Re-Elect Joe Lonergan Tacoma City Council District #5

"Life is better South of 56th"

Your ballot is in the mail, and it starts out with seven statewide issues before you get to the local races. Whether or not you vote on every issue, it's important that you take time to cast your ballot for City Council.

When you elected me four years ago, I took a survey of South Tacoma voters, and then I went to work on your top priorities: more jobs, local grocery stores, smoother streets, positive youth activities and less crime.

If you believe that actions speak louder than words, I hope you'll agree that life is better South of 56th. Winco Foods and Grocery Outlet provide convenient shopping and more jobs in the district. Star Center, Pacific Sports Center and improved parks and schools are good for our kids and grandkids.

Our residential streets still need a lot of work, but I'm happy to report that 65 of the worst blocks South of 56th have been repaved during my term, and more are scheduled. I've worked hard to reduce crime, especially gang activity and prostitution--and the crime rate is down!

The City Council is non-partisan, and I've been able to get a lot done for my constituents by working well with Republicans, Democrats and Independents. As a result, I've been endorsed by leaders from both parties, including Mayor Marilyn Strickland and County Councilman Doug Richardson. The News Tribune also endorsed me, saying my opponent is running a highly partisan campaign. As we've seen in Washington, D.C., that's not the best way to serve the public.

It is an honor to work for you. Please be sure to mark and return your ballot before November 5th, so I can continue to serve you.

Sincerely,
